Once the matches are found, the search engine displays the result as per the keywords embraced in the website.

Types of Keywords

There are four types of keywords. They are:

Factors affecting SEO

So how do you improve the ranking of the website using SEO? Well, the factors that affect SEO are: On-Page and Off-Page.

On-Page SEO

On-Page or On-Site refers to the pages of the website itself. When the page is optimized to the quality content then it is known as On-Page SEO. In addition to the content, the coding part as well as images are also optimized. It has several other factors which take precedence consideration. They are:

Meta Tag: These are the tags that are used in the main headline in the source code of each web-page. They are not displayed on the website's content page but help make website visible to search engines. The search engine reads these meta tags and then accordingly index and rank them on the result page.

Meta Description: This acts as the description of page and just like meta tag, it is not displayed on the web-page, instead, it goes in the coding part which is read by search engines. It is usually written in 155-160 characters.

Slug: It is a page identifier of a website. When a user click on a particular page then in the address bar of the website, the page name is displayed. This helps indexing and ranking up the page which is readable to both- search engines and humans.

Focus and Relatable Keyword: Both of them are put in the slug which eventually help in placing the website on top search results.

Off-Page SEO

When the steps are taken outside of your site to improve its ranking then it is known as Off-Page or Off-Site SEO. The best off-page practices are:

Guest Posting: When a person who is not the owner of the website or blog yet writes the content for it, is known as guest posting. By writing the guest post, the person is promoting the site of the original owner which is read as a 'good site' by the search engines. This improves the rank of the site and gets displayed in to results.

Commenting: When a person is leaving the comment on another site, the search engine picks it up and calculates the number of visitors seen the page. If there are too many comments then it has a good chance that the search engine will give it a higher ranking in the search results.

Public Relation: It is one of the most useful method to brand the company and the website. Usually, the PR can be done through the press releases but it can also be done in other form of public forums like, school/college functions, live events, stage shows, sports, advertisement on billboards etc. Public relation helps in:

  • Build the positive image and thus reputation

  • Build trust

  • Expand the reach to wider audience

  • Improve search rankings

  • Ultimately, bring the website on top of the result page

Backlinks

When the owner of another website provides the link which redirects the user to your website then it is known as backlink. It is like one website is voting or promoting another website. Basically it tells the search engine that the content of the particular website is unique and useful. Backlink is of two types: 1). No follow 2). Do follow.

No Follow: When a website puts a backlink of your site but exclusively marks it to not to follow for the search engines then, it is known as No Follow. These type of backlinks get ignored by the search engines which means it doesn't get boost to rank the page higher up in the result.

Do Follow: By default, all the links have Do Follow attribute. It allows the search engine to follow the link back to its origin website thus improving and enhancing the ranking of the page and bringing more traffic to your website.
